Playing together online
Firnreach is for 1 to 8 players: play solo, or in co-op. Online play goes through Steam: no separate account, no port forwarding.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Steam must be running when you start the game. Without it, only LAN and direct-IP games are available.
- Everyone needs the same game version. Steam keeps you up to date; a game on another version shows as different version and can’t be joined.
- The Steam overlay should be enabled (Steam > Settings > In Game). You use it to send invites.
Hosting a game
Section titled “Hosting a game”- Open Multiplayer and pick who can join under Host a game:
- Friends: your Steam friends can join you straight from their friends list.
- Invite only: only players you invite can join.
- LAN: players on your local network see the game; Steam isn’t needed.
- Set the max players and the match settings, then press Host.
- Invite people with Shift+Tab (the Steam overlay) or Invite friends in the lobby.
- When everyone is ready, press Start. A new map is generated for each match.
Joining a game
Section titled “Joining a game”- From Steam: accept an invite, or right-click a friend who is hosting in your Steam friends list and choose Join game.
- From the game list: open Multiplayer, look under Join a game and press Join.
- LAN / direct IP: under Advanced, enter the host’s address. This only works for LAN-mode games; Steam games are always joined through Steam.
You can join a match that’s already running.
In the lobby and during a match
Section titled “In the lobby and during a match”- The host can kick a player (lobby, or Pause > Players). A kicked player can’t rejoin that game.
- Anyone can mute another player’s chat for themselves.
- Teammates can upgrade each other’s towers (whoever upgrades pays). Only the builder can sell a tower.
- Team votes: skipping the day and calling a Frost Surge are voted on. Press Y or N.
- Leaving a match counts as a loss for you.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| No Steam options in Multiplayer | Start Steam first, then the game. |
| Different version next to a game | One of you needs to update. In Steam, restart to apply updates. |
| Invite does nothing | Check the Steam overlay is enabled, then try Invite friends in the lobby. |
| Can’t join by IP | Direct IP only reaches LAN-mode games. Ask the host to invite you through Steam instead. |
